Translation for a book shaped by a borderland

“Baranja – Living on the Edge” by historian Luka Jakopčić was published to mark 100 years of Croatian Baranja. The book explores a region shaped over centuries by different peoples, cultures and traditions, with Osijek-Baranja County as publisher.

Working with Hungarian historical sources

Because Hungary has played an important role in the region’s history, a significant part of the source material exists in Hungarian. Our work involved researching, selecting and translating manuscripts and books relevant to the history of the area now known as Croatian Baranja.

Language as part of historical research

The task went beyond converting words from one language to another. Historical context, terminology and source meaning had to remain clear and reliable. By translating and summarizing relevant Hungarian material into Croatian, we helped make those sources accessible within a broader historical publication about the region.
